You're Running Out of Time

We as a generation have gotten so laid back. Granted, we work hard when it comes to some things. But have you ever identified on a personal level of putting on your most comfortable t-shirt and slacks, grabbing all the snacks in your cupboard, dimming the lights in your room, and re-watching your favorite show that you can basically quote without missing a beat? If you were to add up all the hours you spent wasting time when it could have been spent somewhere else, you won’t be surprised when you ask yourself why it is that your dreams are taking so long to fulfill.

This post is honestly pointing all 10 fingers at me. I am guilty of watching, re-watching every favorite movie, show, YouTube video, funny IG video, you name it. I’ll click on tick-tock for a few minutes and next thing you know it’s been an hour. It is almost embarrassing how many times I will find myself sitting in front of my computer at 2am crying over a fictional death of my favorite character. Or singing along to the 5th Disney movie I’ve watched in one day (and I will not confirm nor deny if that was Moana). Let's not talk about the switch or else my dad may throw it away.

If I knew that in one month, my life here on earth will be finished, you better believe you won’t find me sitting on my bed watching Lord of the Rings for the literal millionth time. You won’t find me playing Zelda on my switch trying to beat those stupid monsters that just won’t die. You definitely won’t find me scrolling through Instagram watching how everyone is living their life and counting how many views my last story got or how many likes my last post received.

Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” That has got to be one of if not the most overlooked lesson in the Bible. We hear it and think, “yea, yea, yea… I hear you. Man should I finish the series tomorrow or watch a movie? But I’m about to buy another game so I’m gonna be stuck on that for a while. I also just bought 5 new books I want to read but I don’t have time. Maybe I’ll just sleep all day and do nothing. Work has been rough.” I definitely boast about tomorrow a whole lot and tend to forget to live in the moment and let God use me to my fullest extent.

Now listen, I’m not saying you should throw away your video games and unsubscribe from Netflix or Disney plus. Please don’t throw out that PS4! (Give it to me instead so I can finally buy FFVII which I’ve been dying to play!) Lol, anyway, I just think we need to make a conscious decision for how much time we are giving each thing. I tell myself that I’ll allow a certain amount of time to play a game. Maybe watch 2 Episodes or one movie. I want to make sure I’m still keeping up with the books I want to read. Why not dust off my paint brushes and splatter some paint on a canvas? Haven’t done that in a while. Obviously the most important thing is your time with God but this is talking about all the other rest-of-the-day things.

Please take this post as an encouragement to pursue the things that matter most. It doesn’t even have to be about a goal. Set apart some time to be with your family or your friends. Call them if they are far away. Time is such a precious thing, and you will regret all the moments you let go by because you were simply wasting it away.

Did I step on some toes?

Good.

Mine are bleeding.
