Toddler in the Eyes of God

I’ve always had a love for kids. They are intriguing little things. The way they begin to process the world through such fresh and new minds. I can’t help but compare my life to theirs. We are more alike than people know. I see them and I see a mirrored reflection of myself. Their actions are quite similar to ours; their behavior as well.

Toddlers get so incredibly excited over the simplest things. Whenever one of them sees a

squirrel running around outside through the window, they start jumping and yelling and telling

us to look. We’ve seen squirrels before, we know what they’re like. It’s not really that big of a

deal for us; but still we pretend to be completely enthralled that there is, in fact, a squirrel

outside.

Likewise, we ourselves still get excited over the simplest things in life: a beautiful rainbow, a fulfilled promise, the miracles he does in the lives of people. God knows these things yet rejoices with us. Even when we pray, He already knows what we are going to ask but still He wants to hear our voice.

If you don’t believe me just think about it. “God, you wouldn’t believe what just happened to

Veronica! She got the job she’s always wanted!”, “God, this sunset is so incredibly beautiful, just look at those colors exploding in the sky!”. We speak of these things and God just looks down and smiles, He is the one that made it all happen, but He takes pleasure in seeing our joy.

Another thing toddlers like to do is making crafts, it’s fun for them and they love the mess. Even though we help them, it still ends up looking like chaos on paper. But we love their work and hang it on our fridge or store it as treasure. If you are a parent, you may have the ugliest portrait ever drawn of you by your child hung up like a priceless piece of art.

In the same way, we do all these amazing things for God. We are so proud of our accomplishments and everything, yet still, they look like filthy rags compared to the splendor of Jesus. But in all that, God acknowledges our work and uses it to display His splendor. A God, who needs nothing and no one to show His majesty, allows us to create ways that glorify Him. We write songs, or books, we dance, or maybe paint, we do all these different things to worship Him and He takes pleasure in them.

We really are just toddlers in the eyes of God.
