Stolen Dreams

Have you ever robbed your own dreams? I’m not sure if I believe that other people can steal our dreams. Not if they were given to us by God. Sure, life happens, and things get in the way; but it’s really our choices or our own stubbornness that steals our dreams. Fear of failure can steal your dreams. Loss of perseverance can steal your dreams. Blaming others is such a huge dream stealer. Complacency is a sneaky dream stealer. Comparison is the most common dream stealer. Trying to do it alone is also one of those dream stealers that doesn’t look like one.

Have you learned how to watch out for those dream stealing moments? If you sit down and try to think of what has been stealing your dreams, you can come up with an extensive list. Even after writing this I will find myself thinking of more while eating lunch or driving in my car or while washing the dishes and cleaning the house, maybe a thought will pop into my mind at 2 in the morning (my favorite time to think).

My encouragement to you (and me of course) is to take back those dreams you used to have in your heart. I don’t care how wild or impossible or insignificant you think they may be. Dreams have the power to motivate you. They have the power to push you to be better. There is so much weight behind them that you don’t even realize. They have the power to get you out of where you are now. Dreams are a tool God uses to helping you become the person you were meant to be. His dreams aren’t a destination but a journey. A constant movement of achieving something.

Write down your dreams. Keep them before you. Do something each day to help you move towards that dream. What’s crazy is that the dream can fluctuate from wanting to be healthier, to wanting to learn sign-language, to remodeling a room in your house, to finishing a pile of books, to writing a book, to creating a curriculum, to starting an organization, to moving to another country, to anything you want to do! Your dreams are endless!

Something else that helps me that I share some of my dreams with other people. Depending on who can speak to a particular dream. Not everyone knows all of them. Not everyone needs to know all of them. Some will simply talk you out of them while the right people will help push you towards them. Be careful of that too. At the end of it all, accomplishing your own dreams may just be the motivation for someone else to pursue theirs. I’ve seen that a few times in my own life; both for me and through me.

What are your dreams?
