Fight for me

This post is not sponsored! But it was inspired by a song. I was pulling out of a police parking lot after going to retrieve a report stating that there was an incident that happened involving another person and they were the ones guilty of that incident. I was being called by the individual’s lawyers demanding money as they accused me of being at fault even after the police had told them on site that he was guilty. His dad was there so he was wanting money from me thinking I'd be gullible. I was feeling frustrated and angry at the whole situation. This scenario has happened more than once to me and most of the time it is just the evil intentions of the opposing party wanting money. Some cases I’ve lost and others I’ve been justified. Not to go into detail of my annoying sob story; I was leaving the parking lot when Gawvi’s song came on called “Fight for Me”. Sometimes, listening to a song hits you a little different when something is happening to you or around you. So I paid attention to the lyrics a little extra this time.
It started making me think about all the times we’ve had to fight for something. Where does strength come from? What does it even mean to be strong? Of course, I love looking up a dictionary’s description of the word to get an understanding of how the world defines it. I noticed that Webster’s strength is focused on the individual having the power within themselves as well as on things that they have such as wealth and talents. The only definition I found that involved something other than self, was when it came to having an army. Mostly however, it was internalized and based solely on the one person.
So what happens when they have no strength left? If they are too focused on their own power and their own ability, there will be nothing to turn to when all their strength is spent, and they will surly come crashing down.
(Funny thing is, I also finished an anime that was pretty much based on the strength that comes from people coming together as one, to give you strength. See mom! I do learn things from Japanese shows! If you guess what anime I was watching I’ll give you a brownie.)
Ok, back to the actual post. Fight for me. Fighting was never meant for you to do alone. Even when no one is around you, God will always be there to fight for you. Nowhere, in Biblical history, have I seen someone overtake an enemy on their own. There were either people around them to help them or God was there to help them win the battle.
So what exactly are we fighting against?
Loneliness – If you don’t want to be lonely, reach out to someone
Anxiety – If things around you are worrying you, give them to God and let Him exchange it with peace
Injustice – Do what you can on your part and let God take care of the rest
Status quo – The world is pressuring everyone to be a certain way, fight to be who you are
Fear – let God give you peace when the world is trying to feed you fear
Each person has their own battle they are fighting in. Too many think that they need to fight it alone to prove their strength. So many are losing and letting a simple victory elude them simply because they won’t let someone in.
Two different places in the Bible where I remember either people helping someone fight or God helping them in the fight is when Moses had his arms lifted during a battle and Joshua surrounding the enemy’s camp while screaming and making noise.
For Moses, the condition was that as long as his arms were extended towards heaven, the Israelites had the upper hand. But if his arms were lowered, then the enemy would gain the upper hand. To ensure that the Israelites won the battle, Aaron and Hur came alongside Moses and lifted his arms for him while they had him sitting on a rock. Moses wouldn’t have had the fighting strength to lift his arms on his own.
For Joshua, his army was clearly outnumbered and not as experienced as their enemy. However, God told him to climb to the surrounding mountain hills and wait for the moment to scream and bang on a few pots and pans. That commotion caused great confusion among the enemy camp making them kill each other. Can you imagine doing nothing but making noise just to have the enemy kill themselves? That was all by the power of God fighting for His people.
We need people and we need God to fight for us and with us. Don’t do it alone.
